Bakersfield North Rotary Members have partnered with Chevron of Bakersfield to bring smiles and backpacks to 675 incoming Standard School District and Beardsley School District kindergarten students.  Backpacks will be given out at Standard, Wingland and Highland Elementary Schools on Tuesday, August 12th. A second day is planned for Tuesday, August 18th at Beardsley and North Beardsley Elementary School for the same project.

Club President, Sheri Horn-Bunk and fellow Rotarians Cathy Bennett, Adam Alvidrez, Renee Goodwin, Teresa Ford and David Milazzo, plus four Chevron employees pulled together to make this project a reality. “This is a wonderful opportunity for North Bakersfield Rotary to help first time students begin school with a bright start and build their self-confidence,” said Horn-Bunk. Backpacks include a pencil kit with pencils and an eraser plus crayons.

On Monday, July 28, Rotary members stuffed and prepared the backpacks for delivery. The backpacks were prepared for the give-a-way on August 12th and 18th at Kindergarten Orientation. It’s an awesome experience to see our community in action.
